Songcheng’s Australia Legend theme park to open within three years

The Songcheng group’s first theme park outside China is on track to be opened on the Gold Coast in Australia within three years, reports local media.

The Queensland Times reports that the Chinese developer has just submitted a detailed development application to the Gold Coast City Council. Its RMB 2 billion plans (AUS386m/US$293m) plans for the Australia Legend project include an adventure park, indoor ski field, animal exhibits and a 3,500-seat performance theatre.

The theme park is said to be pitched at Chinese tourists visiting Australia and will also feature an “Aboriginal Cultural Village”, “Colour Zoo” and “Mysterious Orient” zone, along with a “Wild Australia” show. In addition, as part of a AUS$600m development, there are plans for bars, restaurants, a wedding centre, hotels, a residential community and a tranquil wetlands environment on a 44-hectare parcel of land.

Thousands of construction jobs are expected, and more than 500 permanent staff positions once the it opens. The park resort will be located on the site of a former dairy farm between Narang train station and Metricon Stadium, home of the Gold Coast Suns.

The Songcheng group describes itself as the biggest creator of cultural tourism projects in China. It operates around 30 theme parks and attractions across the country, with a strong emphasis on live shows and performance.
