In September 2019, Merlin announced that it is partnering with Global Zhongjun to develop a LEGOLAND resort in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. The project is funded by Global Zhongjun, which is a joint venture between The Chengdu Global Century – Exhibition & Travel Group (ETG) and Zhongjun Beijing. Merlin will partner in the resort development and operate it under a management contract.
LEGOLAND Sichuan will be located at Meishan City, approximately 60km south of Chengdu city center. The 57-hectare resort will feature two Lego-themed hotels and is scheduled to open by 2023, which is expected to become the first LEGOLAND resort to open in China.
